Qi Gong PracticeTheory & Concepts of Dao Qi Gong:'A huge amount has been written about the theories regarding the sources and practices of Qigong. The fundamental and pervading idea in all the various Qigong approaches is that by the pracice of this system you develop your Qi. Qi roughly translates as vital life force which permeates everything and is everywhere, including our bodies. When you increase the Qi in your system then you become imbued with greater vitality, health and well-being and insight. Some Qigong modalities including DAO QI GONG also develop your Shen which translates as spirit or consciousness and your Jing which translates as essence. These attributes together with Qi form the Three Treasures of Chinese medicine and Daoist spirituality. The aim of Daoist practicioners is to cultivate your conscious awareness and the essence of your being. Then you are able to percieve the true nature of inner and outer reality. Inner reality includes the Po, Hun, Yi as well as Jing and Shen. These are the expressions of the five universal principles as to what is referred as the Five Elements. By working with Qigong in this way you also realise what YIN and YANG are all about , how they manifest and what are their qualities both within and all around you. These cosmic and natural principles are the dual dynamics that constitute life and which represent the interplay of Tien and Di, Heaven & Earth. Another principle we connect to and work with is Yuan, the Source of all, our origin. All these terms will be explained in much greater detail during the classes especially in the 'Cycle of Life' course which delves into the Elements in depth.' |
